Various parts of the Dita tree, including its bark, leaves, and latex, have been used in traditional medicine in different cultures. The latex is known for its medicinal properties and has been used for treating skin diseases, wounds, and as an antidote for snake bites.

The wood of this tree is lightweight and can be used in making boxes, matchsticks, and as timber for construction. Unfortunately, the wood is not durable and is prone to termite attacks. Bark yields a fiber, and the wood is regarded as suitable for pulp and paper production.

Wood of Alstonia scholaris has been recommended for the manufacture of pencils, as it is suitable in nature. The flowers yield an essential oil.

Regular dry season watering is essential for good growth, and deep mulch has proved beneficial to young trees.
