BS Travel Management students of the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management won awards in two contests held during the 29th Philippine Travel Mart, last August 31 to September 2, 2018, at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
In the Philippine Tourism Quiz Bee Finals, Ms. Andrea Hernandez and Mr. Ernest Gatinga won 1st Runner-Up and Finalist, respectively. Meanwhile, for the Patimpalak ng Kasuotang Filipino, Ms. Cherry del Rosario won 1st place in the female category and Mr. Aven Rada was proclaimed second-place winner for the male category.
Both outfits were designed by their fellow student, Ms. Marjorie Bejosano, with the assistance of an alumnus of the college, Mr. Jan Dayaon. Indigenous materials such as abaca with rafia, pineapple silk, corn kernels, burlap, local organza, hand-made knitted flowers, local wood beads, pili nut shells, capiz and coconut products were used to bring the designs to life.
The students were coached by the Tourism Management Department Chair, Ms. Jane G. Devanadera together with the faculty members of the Tourism Management Department, Asst. Prof. Fredeswindo R. Medina, Asst. Prof. Christine Concepcion C. Fajardo, Ms. Karla Patricia G. Colmenar, Mr. Jame Monren T. Mercado and Mr. Avi Ben P. Andalecio.
The Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) showcases destinations and products from various regions in the Philippines. This is an annual event where tourism-related products and services such as airfares, hotel accommodations, tour packages and local products are offered to the public.
