The UST Simbahayan Community Development Office held the turnover ceremonies of the cash donation through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding with the Diocese of Caloocan Ministry of Urban Poor (MUP) Diocese of Caloocan last March 13, 2017 at the Office for Student Affairs Conference Room, Tan Yan Kee Student Center.
The said cash donation amounting to P250,000 will used to support the livelihood of the victims of fire at Navotas fishport last January 10, 2017. The fire forced more than 600 families to take refuge in evacuation centers and left almost P750,000 worth of property damages.
Simbahayan Director Asst. Prof. Mark Anthony Abenir, DSD and Rev. Fr. Patricio Hiwatig, OP, of the MUP-Diocese of Caloocan and San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish signed the memorandum of agreement; whereas Assistant Director Asst. Prof. Froilan Alipao, MCD, and Mr. Noli Madeja served as witnesses. “As partners of the Church and UST, the Simbahayan Community Development Office are continuing this service to the poor.” Abenir said. “We hope this small amount of donation will be used for major projects that everyone would benefit.”
Moreover, the National Service Training Program Office distributed 400 hygiene bags. “As a part of our advocacy, we collect hygiene kits every start of the semester. These bags are easily distributed to the partner communities which were affected by fire and most especially in times of calamities,” NSTP Moderator Asst. Prof. Jose Ricarte Origenes said.
