Royal Thai Embassy, PH mark 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations through performances at UST

The Royal Thai Embassy in Manila, in close cooperation with the University of Santo Tomas, marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Thailand with the Thailand-Philippines Cultural Performances. Held on January 22, 2019 at the Dr. Robert Sy Grand Ballroom at the UST Paredes Building, the musical occasion featured presentations from the Ang Thong College of Dramatic Arts, the UST Symphony Orchestra, and the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe.

Ambassador Designate of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Philippines His Excellency Vasin Ruangprateepsaeng graced the event and delivered a message, while UST Office of Public Affairs Director Assoc. Prof. Giovanna V. Fontanilla, Ph.D., gave the welcome remarks.

The Ang Thong College of Dramatic Arts performed the “Pursuit of Supanna Matcha,” a masked-drama dance from the Thai national epic Ramakien, “Natnaree Sri Ayothaya,” a tribute to the beauty of Thai women and delicate style of Thai dances, and their finale, the “Rum Wong,” a dance that moves in circular manner with graceful hand movements. In turn, the University of Santo Tomas presented the Symphony Orchestra’s “Overture to Philippine Folk Songs” and the Salinggawi Dance Troupe’s “Tinikling” and “Magandang Pilipinas.”

The event concluded with the giving of tokens, where His Excellency Vasin Ruangprateepsaeng received the “400 @ 800” coffee table book, and with an exchange of flowers among the University of Santo Tomas, represented by UST Office of Public Affairs Director Assoc. Prof. Giovanna V. Fontanilla, Ph.D., the Royal Thai Embassy, represented by H.E. Ruangprateepsaeng, and the Ang Thong College of Dramatic Arts, represented by its Director Mr. Witoon Poonsawat.

The event was coordinated through the efforts of the Office of Public Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy, with Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, who previously spoke on “Learning Mobility in the Context of ASEAN Integration” at the 5th discourse of the UST Ambassadors Lecture Series.
