CASTILLO, Agnes L.

AGNES L. CASTILLO, PhD, is recognized as one of the 25 recipients of the Philippine Men and Women of Science Award given by the DOST in 2015. She was also a DOST-SEI SCHOLARSHIP Awardee in 2010-2012 and received the DOST ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD in 2013 after finishing her PhD in Pharmacy degree at UST in October 2012. She obtained her BS Botany, BS Pharmacy, and MS Pharmacy degrees from the same university and graduated “Cum Laude” in 2000, 2002 and 2006, respectively. She ranked 2nd in the 2003 January Pharmacist Licensure Exam. She is a faculty member of the UST Faculty of Pharmacy and The Graduate School and a resident researcher at the UST Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences. In 2014, Dr. Castillo was also chosen as the recipient of the Dr. Alfredo C. Santos Award given to a young PhD natural product scientist by the Natural Products Society of the Philippines (NPSP). Her works on the pharmacology of natural products and development, like Tinospora lotion and drug delivery systems, have been published in Scopus-indexed, peer-reviewed national and international journals and have won research paper/poster contests.

Dr. Castillo is a registered pharmacist, a botanist, and a member of The Philippine Pharmacists Association, Inc. (PPhA) and Philippine Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (PACOP), a Board member of Natural Products Society of the Philippines (NPSP), Secretary of Division 4 – Pharmaceutical Sciences National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP). She is also the current Coordinator for Internationalization, Mobility and Linkages of the Faculty of Pharmacy. She has several research projects funded by CHED, PITAHC, NRCP, and Delightex, LTD, a Singapore-based company. She received the Professional Advancement Grant under the K to 12 Transition Program to pursue the Clinical Summer Pharmacy Program of the College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois Chicago (USA) in June – July 2017. She was one of the recipients of the Gold Series Award and International Publication Award AY 2014-2022, awarded by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovations (OVRRI), University of Santo Tomas on March 16, 2018, and March 9, 2023. She is the Associate Editor for the Pharmaceutical Sciences section of the Acta Manilana and The Antoninus Journal. Dr. Castillo was also chosen as the NCR Cluster Winner and National Winner for the 2021 Best Mentor in Health Research Award Graduate Category sponsored by DOST-PCHRD. Recently, Dr. Castillo received The Outstanding Pharmacist (TOP) Award 2023 in Research from The Philippine Pharmacists Association, Inc. and The United Laboratories, Inc. She was also included in the World Scientist and University Rankings 2021 -2023 having an h-index of 10 and an i10 index of 11.
