BAWAL, Dionise Ysabelle V.

Dr. Dionise Ysabelle V. Bawal obtained her medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (UST-FMS). She completed internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Veterans Memorial Medical Center. She further sub-specialized in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital. She is currently an Assistant Professor 1 in the Departments of Medicine and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Nutrition at UST-FMS. With a constant thirst for acquiring new skills and knowledge, she assumes several roles in different organizations. She is an E-learning Specialist at UST Educational Technology Center, a Junior Copyeditor for the Journal of the ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies (JAFES), and is a writer/contributor in PCEDM Updates, the official newsletter of the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Dr. Bawal is a Fellow of the Philippine College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She actively contributes as a Visiting Consultant at UST Hospital and an Active Consultant and Training Core member at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center

Research Highlights

  • Dr. Bawal’s impactful research spans diverse medical and psychological domains.
  • In 2021, a study investigated the impact of telemedicine on self-care activities and patient satisfaction among Type 2 diabetes patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, presented at the PSEDM Annual Convention and published in the Journal of Medicine University of Santo Tomas (JMUST).
  • In the field of diabetes, Dr. Bawal co-authored several trials including exploring the effectiveness of the mySugr App and telemedicine-based diabetes self-management education.
  • She was also a sub-investigator in the ARISE trial which investigated clinical effectiveness of Ryzodeg in a real-world setting. A third study was the effectiveness of Diabetes Self Management Education via telemedicine on Knowledge and Self-Care of T2DM patients.
  • In general endocrinology, Dr. Bawal authored a case report on bisphosphonate-induced severe musculoskeletal pain was published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society.Ìý
  • Earlier works include comparisons in osteoarthritis treatments and fostering empathy in children with autism which was presented nationally.
