Maningas of BioSci, RCNAS recognized as one of 2020 Filipino Faces of Biotechnology

Prof. Mary Beth B. Maningas, PhD of the Department of Biological Sciences and the Research Center for Natural and Applied Sciences is one of the 2020 Filipino Faces of Biotechnology, a letter from the Department of Agriculture’s Biotechnology Program Office confirmed.

In the November 9, 2020 notification, Maningas was hailed for having “greatly contributed and played a significant role in the advancement of biotechnology in the country.” Among Maningas’s most significant innovations is the local cost-effective, onsite, and rapid White Spot Syndrome Virus diagnostics kit that helps shrimp farmers in different parts of the country. Her research endeavors have earned various recognitions, and she has also been the recipient of prestigious grants, such as the 2016 Newton Fund for Leaders in Innovation Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom.

The in-person awarding ceremonies is expected to take place in 2021 once health regulations permit.
