The UST Department of English featured in its November 27, 2020 webinar the importance of Forensic Linguistics in conducting police interviews during investigations. In her lecture titled “Tell me everything youremember’: Memory and language in police interviewing.”
Dr. Dian Dia-an Muniroh, a Ph.D., in Forensic Linguistics alumna from the RMIT University in Australia and an assistant professor at the Universitas Pendidikas Indonesia tackled the importance of a witness’s memory and linguistics in police interviewing. She shared some cognitive interviewing techniques that are not practiced in mainstream investigation processes.
At the end of her lecture, Muniroh emphasized the importance of linguists in law procedures, such as the assistance in gathering more accurate retrieval of a witness’ experience through cognitive interviewing.
