College of Architecture faculty member Ar. Asst. Prof. Rino D. Fernandez received his designation as a member of two scientific committees, one for international research publication and one for international academic gathering. His appointments came from the Journal on Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism (JTBAU) and the International Seminar for Vernacular Settlements (ISVS).
With publications in both English and Spanish, JTBAU is a peer-reviewed international journal that focuses on traditional construction, architecture, and urbanism. The journal is published by the International Network of Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism (INTBAU) and Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture. With the annual publication, the organizers aim to provide a better knowledge and understanding of the traditional constructive cultures of various regions worldwide.
Meanwhile, the ISVS is an event that takes place every two years and is organized by the International Society for the Study of Vernacular Settlements based at the University of Bahrain. The conference gathers educators, researchers, professionals, and students to contribute to the knowledge of vernacular settlements worldwide. It focuses on the role of traditional design and construction knowledge and its role in contemporary times.
Fernandez, the Design Cluster Coordinator for third- and fourth-year students, is also the author of “Diksiyonaryong Biswal ng Arkitekturang Filipino” (A Visual Dictionary on Filipino Architecture) published by UST Publishing House.
