Description

This program is an innovative bachelor’s degree that serves as a preparatory program for the degree of Doctor of Medicine of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. An alternative name for the program is Learning-Enhanced Accelerated Program for Medicine (LEAPMed). In terms of course content, the program is more focused on human sciences than any existing premedical courses. At the end of two years and two special terms, the student will exhibit proficiency in basic human sciences and exemplify readiness to pursue medical studies.Ìý Students will graduate with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Basic Human Studies (BSBHS) and will be eligible for admission to Medicine Proper at the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.Ìý

Program Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:Ìý

  1. demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, and initiate the implementation of healthcare programs, providing inspiration and motivation to the healthcare team in promoting the well-being of the community;Ìý
  2. »å±ð³¾´Ç²Ô²õ³Ù°ù²¹³Ù±ðÌýdedication to promoting collaboration in the delivery of healthcare advocacies, with love for one’s heritage and respect for others;
  3. demonstrateÌýthe use of a system-based approach in the pursuit of excellent delivery of healthcare, adhering to ethical principles of relevance, equity, and quality; andÌý
  4. demonstrateÌýpersonal growth through researches and review of literature to ensure quality healthcare delivery and patient safety.Ìý

Career Opportunities

This program prepares students for medical studies at the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. Graduates of BSBHS who opted not to pursue Medicine proper may be employed as clinical researcher, higher education lecturer, laboratory assistant, physician associate, secondary education teacher, pulmonary therapist, medical representative, and biotechnologist, among others.
